We have combined our Patron’s Appreciation Gathering, Mickie Award Presentations and Annual Picketwire Meeting into one fantastic evening of celebration. Our Volunteer of the Year will also be presented for 2011. This annual event has become a way to recognize all of the volunteers who have kept Picketwire so vibrant through the 43 (and counting) years of its existence. Without you and people like you, this night would not be possible.

          Nominations for the Mickie awards are made by the directors and are voted on by Picketwire members & patrons. Please join us at our AWARDS GALA and ANNUAL MEETING to be held on January 21st, 2012, at the Picketwire Center (on stage) at 802 San Juan. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner, annual meeting & Mickie Awards. The cost is $15.00 per plate, which includes tax and tip. Your dinner for the evening will be lasagna or vegetarian lasagna. Wine or beer is included in the price. You must be 21 years old to drink. Please call the Center’s box office at 384-8320 or 469-7735 and leave a message with your name & phone number. We will call you back to confirm your reservation and dinner choice. Your money must be returned before January 16th, 2012 to guarantee that you have a reserved spot, as seating is limited to the first 75 people with paid sign-up. We will see you at the theatre.

"LION IN WINTER" APRIL DATES SET

    LA JUNTA - It's now definite. The Lion won't roar in Picketwire Center until early spring. The Picketwire Players' board of directors have okayed director Ken Schroll's rescheduling proposal. Performances of the historical drama "Lion in Winter" are now scheduled for April 12-13-14, 2012.
    Schroll told the board he plans to start rehearsals in late February. Prospective cast members have "all signed on (barring the unforeseen)." He's hoping to get the seven together for a few preliminary read-throughs over the next three months. Public announcement of the cast will come in February.
    This leaves the community theater with a blank marquee for the holiday season. Everybody's busy schedules makes it problematic coming up with another December event. Ideas/suggestions from community organizations would be most welcome, and should be directed to the Picketwire Center answering machine, 384-8320.
    First event on the Picketwire Players' 2012 schedule will be the annual membership meeting and "Gala" now set for January 21. It will be the start of the 45th year for what the 1968 founders envisioned would be "Community Theater for the Arkansas Valley."
    "Lion in Winter" is now slated to be the Picketwire Players' 125th production.
